Can you tell me if this short story I’m writing for English class is good?

Baker asked:

We have to write a short story about a rite of passage, for preferably a kid or teen. I just started yesterday and I still need to change some things in the story and if some things don’t seem right, please, do tell.
THANK YOU. =D
Also,if some parts are confusing,I’m still working on it or yeah..and I’m not done. I still have a long way to go.

He awoke suddenly. His hands were gripping the sheets tightly. He had been dreaming about his life back at home. Again. He almost had tears in his eyes this time. It felt like almost yesterday he was at the mall with his friends cracking jokes about their teachers, drinking Dr.Pepper and chatting up girls. Now, he was here, in Mexico, lying on the hard floor with nothing but too thin sheets keeping him warm and a lumpy pillow. And why? All because his parents said he was spoiled, ungrateful, and immature. Snobbish, even. They had decided that sending him with close family would help him become a more mature, responsible, caring, grateful young man; a family that knew what it was like to have these characteristics and the importance of them. But, at least he had only two days left until he went back home. He had been here for a week. On his first day, he was already working hard with his Aunt in the house meanwhile his Uncle came home from the chili crops. He had to scrub all the floors and walls with a rag and a bucket of soap and water. And after he thought he was done with that, she made him sit on the sofa in the living room, told him not to move and went off into another room. As he sat there he looked around in disbelief at the shabby looking living room and wondered how people could live without a television or sound system. He knew he couldn’t. He lived for technology. When she came back to the living room she had some pieces of fabric and a box of sewing needles and string.

“Why don’t you have a TV or radio?” he asked ignorantly.

She looked at him with a look of disdain and thrust the box at him. He took the box from her and shot her a bitter look. She taught him how to sew and do basic patterns. She made curtains, tablecloths, and other patterned fabrics to sell to the people in the neighborhood. Whenever he messed up a pattern, she would smack him on the back of his head and scold him with a line of Spanish cusses. It cost money to buy more string and she couldn’t afford to make mistakes. As soon as they were done she told him to pick up the completed pieces and fold them neatly into a brown basket she set out. He didn’t want to, but he also didn’t want to get hit or told that he was a lazy ungrateful little American boy. Which he knew he wasn’t, he loved everything he had and liked to live good with lots of good food and a big room to fill with all of his stuff. That was being grateful, right? And he went out to hang on the beach everyday with his friends, have bonfires at night and ride their bicycles to the carnival piers. That wasn’t being lazy either, right? He did this nearly every day of the week, even if his parents didn’t agree to it. But he didn’t care about his parents. He was going to turn 18 in a couple of months anyway. He could do as he pleased. They annoyed him everyday when he came home at night. David, where have you been all day? Why haven’t you cleaned out your room, there’s plates and cups everywhere and the room smells like spoiled food! Why can’t you get a job somewhere after school instead of running around the beach all the time? He usually just walked right past them and not says anything. But sometimes he would shout back that it wasn’t their business where he was, what his room was like, or what he was doing after school. He would do this and his parents would never do anything about it. Until that one day a few weeks ago. It was one in the morning and he thought they were already asleep. As he closed the door behind him and proceeded to the stairs, he heard his fathers’ voice in the living room.

“David…” he called out.
David cursed a little under his breath and responded.
“What!” he yelled.
“Come here, your mother and I want to talk to you.”

Tired and annoyed, he stalked to the living room and leaned against the door frame. His parents were sitting on the couch looking haggard. It scared him a little because usually his parents had bright faces and seemingly fake smiles.

“David, lately we have been getting fed up with your attitude and neglect toward your future.” stated his mother, gripping her hands together on her lap.

“We want you to grow up to be responsible man, and have a good job and life.”

“And we feel that we should send you with your Aunt and Uncle in Mexico to experience what it’s like to have responsibilities and what can happen to people who don’t have an opportunity like you to go to school and create a solid future for themselves.”

David’s’ shoulder slipped a little down the doorframe and his mouth hung slightly open as he tried to comprehend wha

I want to learn Spanish. any suggestions?

Ozzy Osbourne asked:

I plan to teach English in Mexico, or the Dominican Republic, or somewhere else that’s nice, and to do this I need an English degree, as well as being able to speak fluent Spanish.

I will eventually be taking classes, but do you know of any online free sites, or programs that I can get started on?

Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!
Oceanid – This is my own picture! I could put another pose if you would like. This one at an outdoor diner.
